Dear Diary,

Today is the Lantern Festival, also known as the Yuanxiao Festival. I had such a fun and exciting day celebrating this traditional Chinese festival with my family and friends. Let me share with you all the interesting things that happened.

In the morning, my parents and I went to the local temple to watch the lion dances and dragon performances. The lion dancers wore bright and colorful costumes, and they moved and danced in such a lively and energetic way. It was amazing to see how they could jump and climb on tall poles while still making their lion heads look alive. The dragon performance was also spectacular, with a long dragon made of cloth and held up by several people. The dragon twisted and turned, creating beautiful shapes in the air. I couldn't help but clap and cheer along with the rest of the crowd.

After watching the performances at the temple, we went home to prepare for the evening activities. My mom taught me how to make traditional yuanxiao dumplings. We shaped the glutinous rice dough into small balls and filled them with sweet sesame paste. Then we cooked them in boiling water. The dumplings turned out delicious and chewy. I couldn't resist eating more than I should!

In the evening, my family and I went outside to join the lantern parade. We had made our own lanterns earlier in the week, so we brought them out to light up the night. The streets were filled with people carrying lanterns of all shapes and sizes. Some lanterns were in the shape of animals, while others were in the shape of famous landmarks. It was like walking through a magical world of lights and colors.

We also played a game called "Guess the riddles". Lanterns were hung with riddles written on them, and people had to guess the answers. It was so much fun trying to guess the riddles and seeing who could come up with the right answers. I managed to solve a few tricky ones, which made me feel really proud of myself.

At the end of the night, we released some lanterns into the sky. We wrote our wishes on the lanterns before letting them go. As I watched the lanterns float up into the dark sky, I made a silent wish for good luck and happiness for my family.

Overall, it was a wonderful day filled with festive atmosphere, delicious food, and joyful activities. I'm so grateful to have experienced the Lantern Festival with my loved ones. I can't wait to celebrate it again next year!
